Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY,
Grandpa Sam took Marty to the local diner every Sunday. It was their
special time to discuss weekly events while dining on pancakes,
French toast and milkshakes. In his teens, Marty worked after school
in the local Deli/Bagel shop. That's when he developed his passion
for food. After high school Marty landed at the University of
Maryland where he studied business and became a huge "Terps" fan.
Even after graduating from college and returning to Manhattan, Marty
traveled to numerous University of Maryland Basketball and football
games. It was at one of the Maryland homecoming football games where
Marty met his future business partner, Bruce. They each discovered
they had the same things in common, the love of the "Terps" and the
love of good food, especially New York diners. Unexpectedly, on
another trip to Maryland to see an ACC Basketball game, Marty met
and fell in love with his wife who resided in Maryland. So Marty
moved to Maryland and got married. This was the perfect time to
bring Bruce and Marty's dream of a diner to fruition. Their goal was
to create a mom and pop place, fresh homemade food, top notch
service, with a "Cheers" type atmosphere where everybody knows your
name. Thus, Star Diner was born. Come introduce yourself... located
in Kentlands.
